Peer Pressure - Christian Life Devotion

Our Christian Life Devotion Verse:

Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.
- Proverbs 16:19

The desire to please others especially our colleagues and friends, makes us do unexpected and strange things. We go wherever they go, we wear clothes like they are wearing even we like it or not, we desire for achievements to please not ourselves but to please. We observe what is "in" and what is "not", we follow the trend that the world is offering that pleases them. The worst part is, we sometimes make choices favorably to our peers that sometimes encourage us to do the wrong things.

Are you familiar with the life of King Rehoboam? In 1 Kings 12, King Rehoboam was also succumbed to peer or people pressure. Instead of listening to good advices, coming from the old wise men who had known his father King Solomon, he chose to listen to his younger advisers who were motivated with the desire of great power and pride. And because of his choice, influenced by his peers, King Rehoboam paid for his mistakes.

I think, all of us are influenced by "Peer Pressure". We may not noticing it but its pulling us from all directions. The good news is, we have the power to choose for ourselves, we have our own decisions. If we tolerate those bad influences like
those who live for pleasure, those who love money than anything else, those who long for power, to rule our lives, this will lead us to destruction. But if we follow the counsel of good, humble and godly, we are in the path of righteousness, the path that leads us to God.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
- Matthew 6:33
